TICKFORD RACING NEWS – ACT FENCE HIRE SPONSORS CAR 56
22 March, 2018
Canberra-based ACT Fence Hire has joined Tickford Racing as a supporting partner for the 2018 season, supporting rookie Richie Stanaway’s No. 56 entry beginning at this weekend’s Melbourne 400 at the Australian Grand Prix.
The new partnership has materialised thanks to sister company Tickford, which in October handed over one of its Tickford-engineered Bathurst 77 Special Mustangs to ACT Fence Hire company director Angelo Turcin. Progression of that relationship has led to the two entities entering an agreement which will see ACT Fence Hire logos on the rear wing end plates of Car 56 for the remaining 15 events on the 2018 season.
“Partnering with Tickford Racing is a great opportunity for ACT Fence Hire,” said Turcin. “The whole team are really just a good bunch of people. Ever since we first made contact last year over the ’77 Special Mustang things have clicked, and when the opportunity arose to work with the race team, it was a no brainer.”
Tickford Racing CEO and team principal Tim Edwards echoed Turcin’s zeal.
“We’re wrapped to have ACT Fence Hire join Tickford Racing for the balance of the 2018 season, “ said Edwards. “It’s very satisfying to know that this partnership is the product of a relationship that originated through our Tickford vehicle enhancement business. Angelo’s been an enthusiastic customer of Tickford so to convert that relationship into a partnership with the race team is outstanding, and we’re very happy to have him aboard.”
Turcin identifies with the team’s commitment to developing young drivers in a tight-knit community, and finds a level of excitement in supporting Stanaway, who even as a rookie ranks as one of the most accomplished drivers in the paddock.
“To support a young guy like Richie Stanaway and a high-profile team like Tickford Racing gives us some excellent exposure,” Turcin added, “and we can say we were on board for the start of what I’m sure will be a long, successful career for him in this sport. It works for the team, and it works for us. We’re very fortunate to be part of such a good group, one that gives guys like Richie the shot they deserve.”
After turning heads as a co-driver with Tickford Racing in 2016, Stanaway returned to partner with Cameron Waters in 2017, and the pair won on debut at the Sandown 500, both drivers’ first Supercars win. Finishing third in the 2017 Enduro Cup, Stanaway was promoted to a full time seat for 2018 on a multi-year deal. Poor luck hampered his main game debut at Adelaide last month, but his pace was consistently strong among the rookie class, and the Kiwi will look to continue his progress at this weekend’s Melbourne 400.
Stanaway and the Supercars field take to the 5.303-kilometre circuit at 12:50 p.m. AEDT for Practice 1 of the weekend. A second practice and four qualifying sessions follow, with four races spread out over Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at the Australian Grand Prix.
